Muscat: The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology (MTCIT) said that it followed with interest what was published on social media regarding the violations by number of owners of taxis and small freight vehicles (pickup).
The Ministry clarified that the inspection teams do not fine small freight vehicles (pick-up type) that carry a private number plate and are used for personal purposes, and that fine are issued only if the vehicle is used for commercial activities.
With regard to taxis; The Ministry stresses the necessity of practicing the activity by the licensee only; As the executive regulations of the Land Transport Law issued by Ministerial Resolution No. 2/218
Article No. (37) stipulate that one of the requirements for operating taxis by individuals is that the driver must be the owner of the means of land transport, and Article No. (38) prohibits the licensed individual from practicing the activity of vehicles allowing others to carry out the activity on his behalf.
