Oman’s NMWC issues statement regarding increase in bromate levels

Muscat: The National Mineral Water Company issued a statement after information was circulated that tests conducted by the Food Safety and Quality Center of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources showed high levels of bromate in a number of the company’s water products.

The company said: “We assure everyone that the safety and quality of its products is the company’s top priority. The company has learned today, through what is being circulated on social media, that tests conducted by the Food Safety and Quality Center of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources have showed an increase in bromate levels in a number of the company’s water products, based on samples provided by the South Al Sharqiyah Governorate Municipality.”

“The company would like to clarify to everyone that as soon as it became aware of what was being circulated on social media and until it received an official report from the Food Safety and Quality Center, it took the initiative to investigate the matter proactively and will work closely with the relevant authorities to find out the facts, verify them, and address any violation of the standards, if any, as quickly as possible.”

“The company confirms that it conducts quality tests regularly in line with the quality standards followed in the Gulf Cooperation Council countries over the past forty years, as the test results have consistently shown the presence of bromate levels within the approved Gulf standards, the latest of which was the technical report approved by an independent party in July of this year 2024, with which the company would like to reassure all its valued customers, stressing its full commitment to complete transparency and informing everyone of the results of the investigation into this matter from all its aspects to ensure the continued safety and quality of the company’s drinking water products.”
