Oman’s Royal Hospital launches first advanced device for the treatment of cancerous tumors

Muscat: The Royal Hospital inaugurates the first advanced device for the treatment of cancerous tumors in the Sultanate of Oman, which is a heated chemotherapy infusion device.

Dr. Rashid bin Mohammed Al Alawi, Head of the General Surgery Department at the Royal Hospital, explains to the Oman News Agency that the device came to replace the traditional method of injecting chemical drugs into the abdominal cavity after the operation to remove cancerous tumors.

It will contribute to the treatment of cancerous tumors, especially colon tumors, ovaries, and appendix, and is used for dozens of cancer cases annually.

Dr. Amid bin Khamis Al-Araimi, Director of the Department of Surgery at the Royal Hospital, indicates in a statement to the Oman News Agency that the hospital performed 13,821 surgeries last year, distributed among various departments: gastrointestinal, liver, gland and breast surgery, and obstetrics and gynecology surgery. Urology, dental, pediatric and vascular surgery, and cases varied between critical and stable.
