Oman’s SAI participates in IRG Session under UN Convention against Corruption

Vienna: The Sultanate of Oman, represented by State Audit Institution (SAI), is participating in the 14th Resumed Session of the Implementation Review Group (IRG), the 17th Session of the Open-ended Intergovernmental Working Group on Asset Recovery and the 12th Open-ended Intergovernmental Experts meeting to enhance international cooperation under the UNCAC.

The meetings are organized by the United Nations (UN) Office on Drugs and Crime at the UN Office in Vienna during the period from 4 to 8 September 2023. The 14th session includes several key topics, the most important of which is the discussion of the review of the fourth and fifth chapters of the UNCAC pertaining to international cooperation and asset recovery.

The topics also include the discussion of the means for using information and communication technology to implement the Convention and the non-binding guidelines in order to promote multilateral international cooperation to further prevent, identify, investigate and prosecute corruption in times of emergency, as well as responding to and recovery from crisis.

Good practices, experiences and challenges related to the establishment of effective financial disclosure systems for concerned public officials, as well as good practices and challenges faced during the international asset recovery process will be also discussed during the session.

On the sidelines of the session, a training course will be held for focal points and government experts participating in the second session of the mechanism for the review of implementation of the UN Convention against Corruption. The participants will be able to learn about the self-evaluation audit methodology, as well as conducting practical exercises in the same area.
