Oman’s State Council discusses draft law on electronic transactions

Muscat: The subcommittee emanating from the Technology and Innovation Committee of the State Council, concerned with studying the draft law on “electronic transactions”, discussed during its meeting today, chaired by Dr. Hamad bin Salem Al Rawahi, Chairman of the Committee, and attended by a number of specialists from the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, to review the Ministry’s views and efforts on the draft law.

During the meeting, the committee reviewed the possibility of applying the draft law to electronic commercial transactions in the Sultanate of Oman, and taking into account its compatibility with current laws.

The meeting discussed the technical differences between full and partial electronic contracting, in addition to the differences between electronic signature and the approved advanced electronic signature. In the same context, the Committee hosted the Head of the Electronic Defense Center to discuss the Center’s opinion on the “Electronic Transactions” draft law and its role in enhancing national security requirements in this area.
