Oman’s mosques external loudspeakers only to be used for calls to prayers, says MERA

His Excellency Dr. Muhammad bin Saeed Al Maamari, Minister of Awqaf and Religious Affairs, issued Ministerial Resolution No. (181/2023), in which it stated:

Based on Royal Decree No. 6/99 defining the competencies of the Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs and approving its organizational structure and its amendments, and based on what is required by the work interest, it was decided:

Article one

Amendments shall be made to the aforementioned list of mosques

Article second 

Anything that contradicts the attached amendments or contradicts their provisions shall be repealed

Article three

This decision shall be published in the Official Gazette, and shall be enforced from the day following the date of its publication

Amendments to some provisions of the Mosques Regulations

Article (1)

The text of Article (39) of the aforementioned Regulations of  Mosques shall be replaced by the following text: The use of external loudspeakers in mosques and chapels shall be limited to raising the call to prayer.

Article (2)

The title of Chapter Seven of the aforementioned Regulations of  Mosques shall be replaced with the following title: Chapter Seven – Violations and Penalties –

Article (3)

A new article No. (56) shall be added to the aforementioned list of mosques, which reads as follows: “An administrative fine not exceeding (1,000) one thousand Omani riyals may be imposed in case of violation of the provisions of this regulation.”
