Muscat: As part of its ongoing efforts to resolve consumer complaints amicably, the Consumer Protection Authority (CPA) in Muscat was able to reach an amicable settlement between a consumer and one of the automotive agencies, recovering OMR 4540 because of failures in the newly purchased vehicle.

Details of the incident: The CPA’s Headquarters received a complaint from a consumer against a car dealership claiming that malfunctions appeared in his new vehicle, including the leakage of cooling water, the explosion of the air compressor and fans, and a malfunction in the engine cooler, as well as the vehicle’s sudden stop on the road.

After multiple failures and a review with the agency, the consumer was dissatisfied with the agency’s procedures because the new car was still under warranty and the defects were not consistent with the new vehicle. He sought the right to acquire a defect-free automobile or to recoup its value. The CPA guidelines mandated that the agency’s officials be contacted, and the complaint discussed.

They recognized the issues and sought to repair the car several times but were unable to solve the problem. They also shown a lack of willingness to discuss an amicable solution. A technical specialist was appointed to investigate these flaws.

The two parties reached an amiable solution, with the Agency agreeing to refund OMR 4540; the car’s value and recover the vehicle. The consumer accepted reimbursement for the damage caused.
