Waste Removal Campaign Launched in Jabal Samhan, Mirbat

Jabal Samhan Cleanup Campaign Promotes Environmental Awareness

Mirbat:  The Directorate General of Environment in Dhofar Governorate continues to implement an environmental campaign to remove accumulated waste from the Hayur area in Jabal Samhan in the Wilayat of Mirbat, as part of efforts to protect ecosystems and preserve the site’s natural resources.

The campaign will continue until 26 May.

The initiative is being carried out in cooperation with Dhofar Municipality in Mirbat, with the participation of Dhofar Tourism and Investment Company, the Explore Salalah team, as well as a number of climbers and volunteers, within the framework of enhancing community partnership and supporting environmental initiatives in the governorate.

The campaign focuses on removing waste and environmental pollutants from mountainous and rugged areas below Jabal Samhan. Specialized climbing equipment and ropes were used to safely access difficult locations and carry out the cleaning operations effectively.

Approximately one ton of plastic and solid waste was removed during the first day of the campaign.

Mohammed Al Amri, Head of Jabal Samhan Nature Reserve Administration, said that the campaign represents an important part of field efforts aimed at protecting the environmental and natural heritage of the reserve.

He explained that plastic and solid waste pose direct threats to wildlife through soil and vegetation damage and water source pollution, in addition to their harmful effects on rare and wild animals inhabiting the area.

Al Amri added that the campaign also carries an awareness message aimed at promoting responsible environmental behavior and raising awareness among residents and visitors about the importance of preserving natural sites for future generations.

The campaign forms part of broader efforts to reduce the environmental impact of waste generated by human and tourism activities and to support the sustainability of the unique natural environment of Jabal Samhan.
