Muscat: OQ Basic Industries and Oman Oil Marketing Company signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) aimed at establishing a framework for joint cooperation in exploring, evaluating and developing opportunities related to alternative and sustainable energy solutions.
The initiative supports efforts to transform the energy sector and enhance sustainability and operational efficiency in the Sultanate of Oman.
Areas of cooperation include exploring solar energy solutions, electric vehicle charging infrastructure and the potential use of biofuels as an alternative fuel for OQ Basic Industries’ vehicle fleet. The memorandum also includes evaluating methanol blending with vehicle fuel as a future option, in addition to studying other initiatives in alternative energy and sustainability agreed upon by both parties.
Under the memorandum, the two sides will conduct technical discussions and commercial assessments, exchange information within agreed frameworks, carry out joint feasibility studies and identify opportunities for future pilot projects in the fields of alternative energy and sustainability.
The cooperation combines the industrial capabilities of OQ Basic Industries, which operates in the production of liquefied petroleum gas, methanol and ammonia, with the expertise of Oman Oil Marketing Company in marketing and distributing fuel products, lubricants and direct fuel sales.
Tariq Mohammed Al Junaidi, CEO of Oman Oil Marketing Company, said that the memorandum represents an important step in the company’s efforts to support future and sustainable energy solutions and keep pace with developments in the energy and mobility sectors.
He added that the cooperation with OQ Basic Industries will help explore practical opportunities in alternative energy, electric vehicle charging and cleaner fuel solutions, contributing to innovation and operational efficiency in line with Oman Vision 2040.
For his part, Eng. Khalid Khalfan Al Asmi, CEO of OQ Basic Industries, said that the memorandum reflects the company’s commitment to exploring opportunities that support energy sector transformation and the adoption of more efficient and sustainable solutions.
He added that the cooperation aims to assess practical opportunities that support innovation and strengthen the industrial sector’s readiness for future requirements in line with sustainability targets and Oman Vision 2040.
