Organic Farm in Ibri obtains the certification by ECOCERT
Ibri: The organic farm in the Wilayat of Ibri in the Governorate of Al Dhahirah has achieved a qualitative accomplishment by obtaining the advanced international organic agriculture certificate “Ecocert”, making it the largest certified organic palm farm in the Sultanate of Oman.
The farm, which is affiliated with Oman Palm Development Company, is one of the leading projects in the Sultanate of Oman that contributes to achieving a food and economic return, and achieving a qualitative shift in the palm sector by applying the latest technologies and scientific developments in the agricultural sector, which contributes to increasing the productivity of Omani dates and their ability to compete in global markets.
In this context, Eng. Masoud bin Saeed Al Hinai, Senior Specialist for Agricultural Operations at Nakheel Oman Development Company, said that the organic farm was able to obtain ECOCERT certification for two programs, which allows the company’s products to be sold in the American markets as well as in the European Union markets. He explained that this international recognition enhances the company’s firm commitment to organic practices and confirms its leading position in this field.
He added that the organic farm in the Wilayat of Ibri includes 35,000 date palm trees of the (Fardh, Khalas, Fahol, and Majdool) varieties on a total area estimated at 4.8 million square meters, pointing out that the company seeks to expand palm cultivation to reach a total number of 50,000 of the date varieties desired in global markets.
He pointed out that the methods and techniques of irrigation in the organic farm using the latest technologies to enhance productivity and raise production efficiency include integrated, self-operating irrigation systems linked to standard sensors that ensure that the plant receives an appropriate amount of water without waste, stressing the company’s keenness to achieve sustainability through optimal exploitation of natural resources of water and soil.
The organic farm in Al Dhahirah Governorate uses everything organic, far from using chemical fertilizers, pesticides, or genetic modifications of plants, which makes the farm’s production of higher quality and more popular with consumers.
It is noteworthy that the Sultanate of Oman seeks to care for palm trees by establishing modern farms dedicated to growing and producing dates in various governorates, with the aim of enhancing agricultural, economic, environmental, food development and food security, in addition to exploiting promising investment opportunities in this vital sector.
