Over 10000 tourists visit Land of Frankincense Sites in Dhofar

Muscat: The number of visitors to Land of Frankincense sites in the Governorate of Dhofar during the months of January and February 2022 reached 10,295, according to the statistics received from the Department of Frankincense Land Sites in the General Directorate of Heritage and Tourism in the Governorate of Dhofar.

The statistics showed that the number of visitors to Al Baleed Archaeological Park and the Museum of Frankincense Land since the beginning of this year amounted to 4790 visitors, while the number of visitors to Samharam Archaeological Park reached 2366 visitors, while the number of visitors to the archaeological site of Wabar (Shasr) reached 3139 visitors.

Al Baleed, Samharam, Bar and Wadi Dawka are registered sites on the World Heritage List under the name of the Land of Frankincense sites. The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism represented by the General Directorate of Heritage and Tourism in the Dhofar Governorate is developing them and providing them with service and aesthetic facilities with the aim of promoting cultural and archaeological tourism in the Dhofar Governorate.

The annual statistics of the Directorate indicated that the number of visitors to the sites of the land of frankincense in the Governorate of Dhofar in the past year 2021  reached 43,174 visitors.

It is worth noting that the Directorate General of Heritage and Tourism in the Governorate of Dhofar extended the period of the exhibition of archaeological discoveries in Al Baleed Archaeological Park until March 17, to provide the visitor and resident the opportunity to view more discoveries and historical information from different sites in the Sultanate of Oman.
