Muscat: The Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion clarified that the total number of gemstone samples that were examined in the Laboratory for Examination of Valuable Stones during the first eight months of this year amounted to 217 samples, according to the categories of gemstones.
The statistics issued by the Laboratories Department of the General Directorate of Standards and Metrology at the Ministry indicated that the number of examination samples in the first category amounted to 153 samples, including diamonds, sapphires, blue sapphires, emeralds, black opals, damanettite, alexandrite and chrysoberyl “cat’s eye”.
It also included gemstones manufactured by modern methods, single stones installed on jewelry, which exceed or less than ten stones, and unpolished stones. Cream of the third category: 10 samples represented in plastic, glass, imitation shapes and others.
The Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion confirmed that it is making efforts to monitor and ensure the quality of gemstones displayed in jewelry stores, in addition to providing an examination and analysis service for gemstones, using the best methods and techniques in the analysis process.
