Over 45 tons of honey production in 2022 in Oman’s Al Batinah South

Rustaq: The amount of local honey production during the 2022 season in the governorates of South Al Batinah reached 45 tons and 842 kilograms, including: 23 tons and 762 kilograms of Sidr honey and 22 tons and 80 kilograms of sumar honey, with an estimated production value of 687 thousand and 630 Omani Rials.

Engineer Abdullah bin Saif Al-Saeedi, Director of the Agricultural Development Department at the General Directorate of Agricultural, Fisheries and Water Resources in the Al Batinah South Governorate, said: The number of beekeepers registered in the General Directorate in Al Batinah South is 734 beekeepers, indicating that the quantities of honey production vary from season to season, depending on the improvement of weather conditions. And rainfall, which results in abundant vegetation and wild trees, which contributes to the high quality and quantity of honey production.

He added to Oman News Agency (ONA) that the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources seeks to achieve food security and its sustainability in the various governorates of the Sultanate of Oman, as the Omani beekeeping sector has received great attention from the Ministry by encouraging citizens and those interested in its breeding, and there are continuous visits to beekeepers to provide technical support and bee supplies. available.

Al-Saidi explained that there is no doubt that scientific progress and rapid methods of accessing information from its official sources significantly contribute to increasing the number of cells and the quantities of high-quality honey production, stressing the provision of modern tools supported by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources, and among those tools are separators electric, manual, and glass containers with a capacity of one and a half liters bearing the beekeeper’s trade name, which contributed significantly to the production of high-quality honey that is desirable locally and globally, and as a result, the Sultanate of Oman participated in international exhibitions and attained advanced ranks in the quality of local honey.

It is worth noting that the Directorate General of Agricultural, Fisheries and Water Resources in the Al Batinah South Governorate is working on a plan to establish a special exhibition for beekeepers in the governorate in one of the commercial centers, in cooperation with the concerned authorities from the public and private sectors. There is also a plan we are working on to encourage the establishment of commercial apiaries with an economic return, and to encourage beekeepers to use modern technology in marketing the final product, and to encourage beekeepers to diversify in breeding operations, including (production of improved queens and parcels in order to maximize financial return).
