His Excellency Eng. Khamis bin Muhammad Al Shamakhi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology for Transport, stated that the Ministry seeks to develop Omani ports that enable the Sultanate of Oman to make it an international logistical center. His Excellency said that in 2022, Omani ports received about 9,800 ships and 5.2 million containers. that the volume of bulk and general cargo has risen to more than 90 million tons; The same applies to the number of tourists, which rose to 205 thousand tourists.

This came in the tenth media meeting of the Ministry, where His Excellency the engineer mentioned some statistics related to the operators of regular public transport buses in the Sultanate during the year 2022 AD; Which transported more than 6.4 million passengers on domestic lines in Muscat Governorate and external lines heading to various governorates, with a growth rate of 185% compared to 2021.

And within the framework of the Ministry’s efforts to organize land transport; His Excellency said that the Ministry has provided more than 83,000 services through the “Naql” platform, including: issuing more than 30,000 new operating cards for land transport, issuing more than 4,000 licenses to engage in land transport activities, and more than 15,000 permits for foreign means of transport.

Regarding the logistical linkage projects, His Excellency indicated that the Ministry will, during the year 2023, implement and complete a number of logistical linkage roads with a length of more than 60 km, including: duplication of the Empty Quarter Road (the first phase), paving the roads of Khazaen Economic Zone, linking the Free Zone in the Wilayat of Sohar, and designing a road. (seeh al-khayrat-al-shisr)

The Ministry will also complete and implement a number of tourist link roads with a total length of 55 km. Including: duplication of the (Raysut-Al-Mughsail) road in Dhofar Governorate, an alternative road linking the South Al-Batinah Governorate in the Wilayat of Al-Jabal Al-Akhdar, paving the Jabal Shams Road, Seih Qatana Road in the Wilayat of Al-Jabal Al-Akhdar, the Wadi Bani Jaber Road (the second phase), and the design of the Shaheb Road (Asaib-Rakhyut). ).

The transport agent revealed the availability of 25 investment opportunities in the field of transport and logistics during the year 2023 AD, most notably: (Al-Maabela-Thamid) road, (Thumrait-Salalah) truck road, and a number of commercial activities in Port Sultan Qaboos and Omani ports, and small and medium marine industrial zones, in addition to To the establishment of commercial ports and mining berths in (Manji, Sadah, Dhalkut, Shinas, Shinh, Sur), the establishment and operation of a land transport tracking system, and the installation of smart scales on the main roads.
