Statistics issued by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources indicated that the total number of water licenses issued during last May reached 785 licenses distributed to all governorates of the Sultanate of Oman.
The Governorate of Al Dhahirah topped the rest of the governorates of the Sultanate of Oman in terms of licenses issued with 248 permits, followed by the Governorate of Al Dakhiliyah with 199 permits, 177 permits, followed by the Governorate of North A’Sharqiyah with 92 permits, then the Governorate of South Al Batinah with 86 permits, then the Governorate of North Al Batinah with 77 permits, then the Governorate of Al Buraimi with 34 permits, then the Governorate of Al Dhahirah with 34 permits. 32 licenses in Al Sharqiyah South, 6 licenses in Muscat Governorate, 6 licenses in Dhofar Governorate, one license in Musandam, 4 licenses in Al Wusta, and one license in Musandam Governorate.
The water licenses issued varied between requests for registration of wells, requests for licenses for wells, requests for dams and aflaj, requests for contractors to drill wells, and requests for development projects.
It is worth noting that the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources is working on issuing water licenses, based on its keenness to monitor and rationalize the use of water resources to ensure a balance between the available and required quantities for various uses.
