Passengers Through Oman’s Airports till May 2024 Stand at 5.96mn

Muscat: The total number of passengers through the Sultanate of Oman’s airports (arrivals, departures, and transit) reached 5.96 million passengers during the month of May. The number of arrivals through the Sultanate of Oman’s airports increased by 12%, and the number of departures increased by 16% compared to the same month of the previous year.

The total number of international flights arriving and departing through the various airports of the Sultanate of Oman reached 39,227 thousand international flights.

The latest statistical bulletin issued by the National Center for Statistics and Information showed an increase in the number of international and local flights through Muscat International Airport, as it rose by 11.0% during the month of May last year and reached 40.3 thousand flights compared to 36,315 thousand flights during the same period of the previous year. The total number of flights also increased. Local and international passengers (arrivals, departures and transfers) increased by 14.3%, to exceed 5.3 million passengers, compared to 4.7 million passengers in the same period last year.

As for international flights through Muscat International Airport, international flights increased to 36,955 flights, or 10.4%, during the month of May, including 18.4 thousand arriving flights and 18.5 thousand departing flights. The number of passengers through the airport also increased to 4.9 million passengers, or 14.4%, compared to May 2022, which amounted to 4.3 million passengers. While the number of domestic flights through Muscat International Airport reached 3,367 thousand flights, an increase of 18.4%, including 1,722 arriving flights and 1,645 departing flights. The number of domestic passengers through Muscat International Airport reached 413,587 thousand passengers.

Salalah Airport recorded an increase in the number of flights by 12.6% during the month of May, bringing the number of international and domestic flights arriving and departing through the airport to 3,904 thousand flights, compared to 3,468 thousand flights during the same month of the previous year, as domestic flights supported this increase. In the month of May In the past, domestic flights through the airport increased by 17.3%, international flights also increased by 8.6%, and the number of passengers through Salalah Airport increased by 10.9%, reaching 522.2 thousand passengers last May.

The total number of international and domestic flights (departures and arrivals) from Sohar Airport reached 226 flights during the month of May, an increase of 105.5% compared to 110 flights in the same period of the previous year. The number of international and domestic passengers (arriving and departing) through the airport also increased by 270.0%, recording 25.8 thousand passengers compared to the same period last year, which amounted to 6.9 thousand passengers.

Duqm Airport also recorded a slight increase of 0.8% in the number of domestic flights (departing and arriving) to reach 260 flights last May, compared to 258 flights in the same month of 2023, while the number of passengers decreased by 6.8% to 25.6 thousand passengers in the month. Last May, compared to 27.5 thousand passengers in the same period last year.

As for the most prominent nationalities that used Muscat International Airport during the month of May, Indian nationality topped the list, recording the highest number of passengers on flights departing and arriving through the airport, with a total of 94,000 passengers, followed by Pakistani nationality, with a total of 45.6 thousand passengers, and then Bangladeshi nationality, with a total of 36.2 thousand passengers.
