Muscat: The Petroleum Development Oman Company (PDO) handed over to the Oman Paralympic Committee 16 wheelchairs for the national basketball team players, in a ceremony held in the main hall of the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Bausher. During the ceremony, the national team players presented wheelchair basketball.
Dr. Mansour bin Sultan Al-Tawqi, Chairman of the Oman Paralympic Committee, gave a speech in which he said: The initiative to launch wheelchairs for basketball players from the Petroleum Development Oman is an important support for the Omani Paralympic Committee, which contributed to the provision of new chairs for basketball players with disabilities with international specifications, as they were manufactured By a Turkish company, with sizes suitable for each player and according to the International Paralympic Committee.
He added: The new chairs are lighter and lighter and allow the player to have greater mobility and progress better, and on this occasion we thank Petroleum Development Oman for this initiative. The team has success, and that they provide strong performance and high technical levels that enable them to reach the top four in the wheelchair basketball game, explaining that the company donated 16 wheelchairs and a dog chair with a special detail that corresponds to the position of each player, and it was completely delivered to the players.
He explained that the Omani Paralympic Committee has a plan to establish another wheelchair basketball team in the Wilayat of Sohar, and thus distribute these chairs to the players in accordance with the sizes of each player, with the aim of establishing a reserve team for these players, and the chairs meet the goal within the next two years, and if the number increases, it will be Searching for new financing to manufacture new chairs.
Then Sultan bin Hamad bin Muhanna Al Hinai, Social Investment Adviser at the Directorate of Foreign Affairs and In-Country Value at PDO, gave a speech in which he said: The company adopts in its plans the support of all community, development and sports activities, and allocates within its responsibilities towards society annually a special budget to provide and distribute this support, as well as It studies many requests for support, and supporting sports for people with disabilities is one of the most important areas of interest to the company and places it among its priorities, adding that Petroleum Development Oman has provided the Oman Paralympic Committee with 16 wheelchairs for basketball players, according to international standards, as they were manufactured by a Turkish company, which is a house of expertise. Universal in the manufacture of this type of wheelchairs for basketball players with disabilities in sizes to suit each of the basketball players.
He added: PDO continues to support the community in all its categories. In addition to the requests for support submitted to the company by the authorities, the company prepares annual studies to know the needs and the initiative and include them within the company’s five-year plans, and thus the initiative in providing support, as the annual allocations for social investment in the sports field amount to a percentage of Good financial allocations established annually, and there are financial allocations for investment to support the communities near the concession areas, and they are distributed in the fields of education, scientific research, health, safety and various existing sports, including camel racing.
After that, Hafez Awlad Ahmed, the national basketball player for wheelchairs, delivered a speech in which he said: The company’s initiative to provide wheelchairs is an important initiative that confirms the company’s keenness to support such sports, within its social responsibility, and as players we are proud of this initiative and we hope that other companies will take the initiative in Supporting the national team and sports for people with disabilities in general, and from here we extend our sincere thanks and great gratitude to Petroleum Development Oman for the support they have provided to people with disabilities.
