PDO organizes dialogue on accelerating climate solutions in North Al Batinah

Sohar: Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) organized the company’s dialogue council titled “Accelerating Climate Solutions,” highlighting the pivotal role of the industrial sector in achieving a sustainable future in the North Al Batinah Governorate.

Engineer Abdul Amir bin Abdul Hussein Al Ajmi, Executive Director of External Affairs and Value Added at PDO, explained the importance of these dialogue councils, to be a platform that includes an elite group of people of knowledge, experience and knowledge in the Sultanate of Oman with decision makers, whether from the public or private sector, to discuss important topics at the national level.

He added: The Sultanate of Oman is an active member in the global movement, and that it has committed to global goals to reduce the effects of climate change, such as: achieving zero carbon neutrality by 2050, and the related development of a detailed national plan to achieve that goal, and the establishment of the Oman Sustainability Center to follow up on the implementation of the plans and strategies in key sectors.

Al-Ajmi also pointed to a number of projects and initiatives to achieve national environmental priorities, including building a sustainable, low-carbon future, which will have a direct impact on reducing carbon emissions, in addition to raising awareness of the seriousness of this matter, and the necessity of unifying efforts through community initiatives.

The dialogue council included a review of climate change and energy transformation by presenting the experience of Sohar Port in this field, in addition to a dialogue session in which a number of environmental specialists in the industrial sector participated, which addressed a number of main topics related to the industrial sector in accordance with the national plan for an organized transformation towards achieving zero neutrality. Carbon, which was launched during the year 2022.

The industrial sector also constitutes 32 percent of the total emissions in the Sultanate of Oman, meaning more than 28 million tons of carbon dioxide equivalent, in addition to talk about the Sohar Charter model for zero neutrality, and investing in projects to reduce carbon emissions and what they include in terms of energy efficiency and renewable energy.

Alternative and legislations that contribute to stimulating reduced energy consumption, green hydrogen, and modern technologies in the industrial sector and their contribution to zero neutrality, achieving a balance between the requirements of climate change and the investment value of industrial projects, and academic initiatives, studies and research in the field of renewable energy and the environment.
