President of Swiss Confederation Visits Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque

Muscat: Dr. Alain Berset, President of the Swiss Confederation, and his wife visited the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque today, as part of his current official visit to the Sultanate of Oman.

His Excellency and the accompanying delegation were received by His Excellency Habib bin Mohammed Al Riyami, President of the Sultan Qaboos Higher Center for Culture and Science.

During the visit, His Excellency the guest and his accompanying delegation listened to a briefing on the history of the mosque’s construction and learned about the various Omani and Islamic architectural designs with which it was built. His Excellency was briefed on the facilities included in the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, such as the Institute of Islamic Sciences, the library, the lecture hall and other facilities.

At the conclusion of his visit to the mosque, His Excellency the guest recorded a speech in the VIP visitors’ register in which he expressed his admiration for the mosque’s unique designs and architectural arts, which are considered a distinguished model of Islamic architecture and its role in supporting and promoting Islamic studies.

During the visit, His Excellency the Swiss President and his wife were accompanied by His Excellency Dr. Hilal bin Ali Al-Sabti, Minister of Health (head of the honorary mission), His Excellency Dr. Madiha bint Ahmed Al-Shaibaniyah, Minister of Education, and a number of officials.
