Professional, Technical Innovation Hackathon Launched in North Al Batinah
Sohar: The Directorate General of Education in North Al Batinah Governorate today launched the Professional and Technical Innovation Hackathon at the Sultan Qaboos Mosque Hall in Sohar. The hackathon targets more than 39,000 students from schools across the governorate and will continue until 12 February 2026.
The hackathon is supported by OQ Refineries and Petroleum Industries Company, in addition to a number of vocational and technical education institutes and school administrations from various wilayats of the governorate.
Dr. Waleed bin Talib Al Hashmi, Director General of Education in North Al Batinah Governorate, stated that the hackathon is based on modern educational methodologies that contribute to integrating theoretical knowledge with practical application, in line with the development of vocational and technical education in the Sultanate of Oman.
He explained that the hackathon was designed according to an integrated educational framework that combines challenge-based learning, project-based learning, and contextual learning suited to the Omani environment. This approach enables students to engage with real-life challenges emerging from the school environment and local community.
Dr. Al Hashmi noted that this methodology resulted in the hackathon being structured as a practical and organized learning platform, focusing on dividing learning into specialized tracks, skill domains, and realistic challenges that reflect community needs.
As part of the hackathon, participating students are required to identify and address issues related to their schools and local surroundings, proposing innovative solutions that will be assessed according to unified general evaluation criteria, in addition to specialized standards specific to each technical and professional field.
