Agricultural and Fisheries Development Fund Advances Food Security Goals
Muscat: The number of projects financed by the Agricultural and Fisheries Development Fund, in cooperation with relevant entities within the food security ecosystem, reached 13 projects in 2025, with a total value of RO 2.4 million.
The projects cover the agricultural resources, fisheries, and water sectors and form part of the Fund’s ongoing efforts to support projects with developmental impact, enhance local production, and achieve the objectives of food security and Oman Vision 2040.
Hanan Said Al Sulaimi, Executive Director of the Agricultural and Fisheries Development Fund, told Oman News Agency (ONA) that the total number of developmental projects financed by the Fund across various sectors over the past five years reached approximately 64 projects, with a combined value exceeding RO 10.6 million.
She explained that financing was distributed among key sectors, with agricultural projects receiving approximately RO 6.5 million, while the fisheries sector was allocated RO 2.2 million. The livestock sector received about RO 1.2 million, and the water resources sector approximately RO 312,000, in addition to projects related to food safety and quality, valued at around RO 285,000.
Al Sulaimi noted that recent years have witnessed the financing of several developmental initiatives in the food security sector, including projects aimed at enhancing local production, developing aquaculture, improving value chains and marketing, and implementing innovation- and sustainability-based initiatives.
She added that the Fund’s objectives and financing plans support several key pillars of Oman Vision 2040, most notably employment and the labour market, economic diversification, financial sustainability, and the protection of the environment and natural resources, in addition to strengthening governance of the state’s administrative apparatus and supporting projects with sustainable developmental impact.
She further affirmed that cooperation between the Agricultural and Fisheries Development Fund and the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources is strategic and integrated, aimed at developing the agriculture, fisheries, water resources, and food safety and quality sectors to achieve national food security goals.
