Qurayyat Port Records Over RO 8.6 Million in Fish Landings

Qurayyat: – The fishing port in the Wilayat of Qurayyat in Muscat Governorate is witnessing the implementation of a package of development and investment projects aimed at strengthening port infrastructure and enhancing services provided to fishermen and investors.

The projects seek to support the local economy and stimulate commercial and tourism activity linked to the maritime sector.

Engineer Abdullah Khalfan Al Hinai, Project Manager, said that Qurayyat Fishing Port is among the oldest and most important fishing ports in the Sultanate of Oman due to its strategic location and role in supporting maritime activities.

He explained in a statement to Oman News Agency (ONA) that the completion rate of the project to add a fixed pier to the breakwater at Qurayyat Fishing Port has reached 100 percent at a cost exceeding RO 2.9 million.

The project includes the construction of a fixed marine pier extending 185 metres, contributing to improving docking operations for ships and fishing boats and enhancing marine handling services at the port.

Al Hinai added that the project also includes the development of a new investment area spanning 33,000 square metres dedicated to commercial and service activities related to the fisheries sector and associated support services.

He noted that the project provides opportunities to attract additional quality investments and create direct and indirect employment opportunities for residents of the wilayat.

The project also includes the establishment of a dedicated marine crane site for the maintenance and repair of ships and boats, which will improve technical services for fishermen and support an integrated operational environment within the port.

Al Hinai pointed out that Qurayyat Port hosts several investment projects linked to the fisheries sector, including a fish processing and packaging plant operated by Blue Waters Company, a fish farming site operated by Taj Al Bahr Company, workshops for repairing fishing engines and marine equipment, shops selling fishing tools, an ice factory, a fuel station, a fish market, fish grilling outlets and a tuna storage warehouse.

He affirmed that these projects contribute to enhancing the added value of the fisheries sector and stimulating economic activity within the port, while supporting supply chains and logistics services connected to marine fishing activities.

He added that fish landings at the port’s fish market during 2025 reached approximately 7,849 tonnes, with a value exceeding RO 8.6 million, reflecting the port’s economic importance and its role in supporting food security and fisheries-related commercial activity.

Al Hinai said that the development of fishing ports extends beyond service improvements to include broader economic and social dimensions through supporting fishermen, encouraging local investment, creating employment opportunities, supporting coastal communities and stimulating tourism linked to marine resources.

He stressed that these projects represent an important step toward enhancing the sustainability of the fisheries sector and raising the efficiency of port infrastructure in line with the Sultanate of Oman’s efforts to diversify sources of income and strengthen the national economy.
