RO 300,000 in Zakat Al Mal to Support Needy Families

Food Boxes, E-Vouchers Mark Nizwa Ramadan Plan

Nizwa, 18 Feb 2026 (ONA) — In preparation for the Holy Month of Ramadan, the Zakat and Charity Committee in the Wilayat of Nizwa, A’Dakhiliyah Governorate, has launched a comprehensive package of Ramadan initiatives aimed at supporting more than 8,000 beneficiaries.

The initiatives reflect the committee’s ongoing efforts to assist needy families and strengthen social solidarity within the wilayat.

Dr. Mohammed Khamis Al Riyami, Chairman of the Zakat and Charity Committee in Nizwa, stated that this year’s Ramadan plan includes the distribution of more than 800 food boxes to eligible families, in cooperation with charitable organisations.

He added that electronic food vouchers will be distributed to over 1,300 families to enhance flexibility in meeting their needs while preserving their dignity.

During the last 10 days of Ramadan, the committee will also distribute Zakat Al Mal funds amounting to no less than RO 300,000 to eligible beneficiaries. More than 8,000 individuals are expected to benefit this year from Zakat Al Fitr assistance, aimed at supporting underprivileged families and bringing joy to them on Eid Al Fitr.

Al Riyami noted that the committee has prepared a media awareness plan highlighting the importance of Zakat and its social and humanitarian impact. The plan includes a unified statement to be delivered during Friday sermons at the beginning of Ramadan, along with lectures and seminars explaining the legal and social dimensions of the Zakat system.

He further revealed that the committee is proceeding with the establishment of a dedicated “Endowment for the Poor” (Waqf Al Fuqaraa) building, which will serve as a sustainable endowment project to enhance financial resources, ensure the continuity of social support and expand the base of beneficiaries in the wilayat.
