Oman Advances Tourism Infrastructure at Jabal Shams

Al Hamra: Jabal Shams in the Wilayat of Al Hamra is undergoing active development through the implementation of several strategic projects valued at more than RO 31 million. The initiative reflects the significant attention accorded to Jabal Shams, the highest mountain peak in the Sultanate of Oman.

The projects form part of an integrated masterplan aimed at developing infrastructure and tourism services in the area, thereby strengthening Jabal Shams’ position as a leading tourist destination and keeping pace with the growing interest in mountain tourism in Oman.

Among the key initiatives is the Jabal Shams Front project, valued at approximately RO 11 million. The development will cover an area of 145,000 square metres and is envisioned as an integrated tourism destination featuring recreational and cultural facilities, including a glass walkway overlooking the canyon, an open-air theatre and a cultural garden.

The project is expected to generate annual revenues of about RO 1.26 million, while creating 309 employment opportunities and 32 investment opportunities across the tourism and services sectors.

The development plan also includes the construction of a 32-kilometre road at a cost of RO 20.2 million, aimed at improving access to key tourist sites. In addition, 172 lighting poles will be installed along a 10-kilometre stretch to enhance traffic safety.
