The dazzling opera which will open the season with traditional elegance and fanfare is The Barber of Seville from popular composer Gioacchino Rossini.

The opera will be performed by the Orchestra Nazionale Sinfonica della Rai and Intermezzo Choir conducted by Antonino Fogliani, with a spray of glittering opera stars in the main roles. Antonino Siragusa sings Conte d’Almaviva, Carlo Lepore takes the role of Dr. Bartolo, Nicola Ulivieri will sing Don Basilio, Maria Kataeva will sing the role of Rosina, and Vito Priante takes the main role of the wily fixer Figaro. The Omani Choir Group will also participate in this production.

The Barber of Seville will be performed on 29 and 30 September at the Royal Opera House Muscat at 7pm. Each performance is preceded with a talk by the creative team, revealing fascinating insights into their production. On Saturday 23 September, the opening Lunch Music concert of the new season will take place in the Opera Galleria.

This popular informal event is free of charge. Singers from the Intermezzo Choir will perform arias from across the Rossini canon ahead of the performance of his much-loved opera, The Barber of Seville, on the main stage the following weekend.
