ROP Marks GCC Traffic Week in North A’Sharqiyah with Safety Focus

Ibra: The Royal Oman Police (ROP) Command in North A’Sharqiyah Governorate marked the Unified GCC Traffic Week 2026 under the slogan “Cross Safely,” as part of activities held from 3 to 9 May.

The event was held under the auspices of Mahmoud Yahya Al Dhuhli, Governor of North A’Sharqiyah, who highlighted that traffic safety has become a shared societal responsibility involving individuals, families, educational institutions and the wider community.

He stressed that this year’s theme places focus on key road user groups, particularly children, students and the elderly, underscoring the need to enhance awareness, discipline and adherence to traffic regulations.

Brigadier Sulaiman Mohammed Al Alawi, Commander of North A’Sharqiyah Police, said the slogan “Cross Safely” emphasizes safe road behaviour, especially during pedestrian crossings, with the aim of reducing run-over accidents and promoting compliance with traffic signals.

The event featured a visual presentation on the efforts of the Royal Oman Police in reducing traffic accidents, as well as an educational theatrical performance highlighting common mistakes by road users. The ceremony concluded with the recognition of participants and contributors.
