Salalah Airport launches the first sea and air cargo operations in Oman

Salalah: Salalah Airport in Dhofar Governorate today launched a test flight for the first cargo service linking the airport and the Port of Salalah, in an operation deemed the first of its kind to connect sea shipments with air services in the Sultanate of Oman.

The operation was conducted within the context of Oman Airports company’s initiatives with strategic partners to consolidate the Integrated Logistics System between ports and airports.

The service stems from a trend to unify efforts with all relevant departments tasked with linking the air cargo terminal at Salalah Airport with Salalah Port, as a step forward in finding another airport for goods in Oman.

The initiative optimizes benefits from basic elements and infrastructure, including the vicinity of logistic services and Salalah Free Zone to the airport. The shipment arrived this week at the Port of Salalah via Maersk Logistics, hailing from Sri Lanka’s Colombo port.

It was intended to be delivered at Salalah Airport to finalize shipping and clearance procedures (at the air cargo building through Transom Handling company) and then proceed to the specialized team of the Royal Oman Police (ROP) before being operated to its final destination.
