Salalah: The Salalah International Classic Chess Championship, organized by the Omani Chess Committee in cooperation with the Omani Telecommunications Company “Omantel”, kicks off at the Sultan Qaboos Complex for Culture and Entertainment in Salalah, and will continue until December 12.
The number of participants before the start of the tournament reached 56 players, with the participation of a number of international classifiers representing – in addition to the Sultanate of Oman – countries: Egypt, Sudan, Yemen, Lebanon, India and the Philippines.
The tournament is part of the activities of the Omani Chess Committee, which aims to spread the game and provide opportunities for contact with internationally ranked players.
The tournament competitions include 7 rounds, according to the Swiss system, with a time of 60 minutes, in addition to 30 seconds for each move. The tournament is run by an arbitration team accredited by the Omani Chess Committee.
