Muscat: Oman’s low cost carrier SalamAir today signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Embraer a Brazilian multinational aerospace manufacturer to purchase 12 all-new Embraer 195-E2 aircraft, to be used in domestic and regional airports in the Sultanate of Oman.

The agreement was formalized during a ceremony organized by SalamAir under the patronage of Eng. Captain Mohamed Ahmed, CEO of SalamAir, explained that the presentation included a review of the company’s most important achievements and  results over the past five years, in terms of the number of passengers, freight traffic and the number of destinations that linked Muscat – directly – to a number of regional and international airports. He also reviewed future plans for the next five years.

He added in a statement to the Oman News Agency: The aim is to continue to stimulate the tourism movement and employing, training and qualifying Omani youth, noting that SalamAir contributed to Oman’s gross domestic product with one billion and 100 million Omani riyals.

He explained that the Embraer 195-E2 model is completely different from the existing aircraft in terms of its 135-seat capacity, and that it is environmentally friendly and low-cost.

He pointed out that the agreement calls for delivery of the first 3 E195-E2 by November 2023 to end that year with six aircraft, with the remaining aircraft to be delivered gradually over the following months.
