Sayyid Badr Holds Phone Calls with Palestinian FM and Arab League Secretary-General
Muscat: Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, Foreign Minister, held separate telephone conversations today with Dr. Varsen Aghabekian Shahin, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of the State of Palestine, and Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States.
During his call with the Palestinian Foreign Minister, Sayyid Badr discussed the latest developments related to the Palestinian cause, as well as regional and international efforts aimed at stabilising the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
The Foreign Minister reaffirmed the Sultanate of Oman’s firm and supportive stance toward the rights of the Palestinian people, foremost among them the right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent state, in accordance with United Nations Security Council resolutions, most recently Resolution No. 2803. Both sides stressed the importance of ensuring the full and effective participation of the Palestinian side in ongoing efforts in this regard.
In his conversation with the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, Sayyid Badr reviewed overall regional developments in light of rapid challenges and their implications for security and stability.
The Foreign Minister underscored the importance the Sultanate of Oman attaches to the pivotal role of the Arab League in containing tensions and promoting de-escalation and political solutions. Both sides emphasised the need to intensify Arab consultation and coordination to safeguard collective Arab security, serve the supreme interests of the region’s peoples, and enhance regional stability.
The discussion also covered developments related to the Palestinian cause, as well as Arab and international efforts to halt escalation and stabilise the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. Both sides reiterated the importance of supporting the political track and enabling the Palestinian people to obtain their legitimate rights, foremost among them the right to self-determination, in accordance with relevant international resolutions.
