Norways’ Scatec ASA and India’s ACME Group green hydrogen and ammonia project in Oman gets world’s first Green hydrogen and green ammonia certificate Globally by TUV Rheinland, an independent certification agency.

The first phase of the facility is expected to produce 100,000 tonnes of green ammonia annually and will be expanded to 1.2 million tonnes per annum with about 3.5 GW of electrolyser capacity, with will be powered by 5.5 GWp of the solar PV plant. The production facility located in the Duqm Special Economic Zone (SEZ)

TUV Rheinland says its certification for carbon-neutral hydrogen provides an evidence of supplying hydrogen to the recipient in a climate-neutral manner, irrespective of the life-cycle stage of hydrogen production, distribution and usage.

The greenfield project was assessed on defined production methods, transport methods and the applications of hydrogen which is fulfilled.

The TUV Rheinland Standard H2.21 Carbon-Neutral Hydrogen certification for Green Hydrogen and Green Ammonia, it explains, enables stakeholders to ensure these 2 products produced from regenerate sources have significantly lower levels of GHG emissions than conventional hydrogen or fossil fuels.

“In OUR TUV Rheinland standard H2.21, we have specified requirements that allow a certification of the Product Carbon Footprint as less than or equal to zero,” said TUV Rheinland India’s Vice President Industrial Services, V Ravi Kumar, “In addition, based on the ‘Carbon-Neutral Hydrogen’ certification, by fulfilling other specific criteria, optional additional criteria can be certified such as Green Hydrogen, Blue Hydrogen, Turquoise Hydrogen, Red II compliant Hydrogen.”

ACME CEO Rajat Seksaria believes the certificate will enhance the proejct’s capability to cater to International matters to ship green ammonia across Europe, America and Asia. He added that work on the project has started and is on track to be commissioned.
