Second edition of Dhofar Theatre Festival begins

Salalah: The Dhofar Theatre Festival in its second edition, organized by the General Directorate of Culture, Sports and Youth in Dhofar Governorate, opened this evening in Salalah and will continue until December 12.

Dr. Hamid bin Ali Al-Mushaykhi, Director of the Directorate’s Department of Culture, gave a speech in which he pointed to the importance of organizing theatrical festivals to address multiple current and future societal phenomena, with the necessity of their compatibility with values, constants, and national identity, indicating that the festival will witness the holding of a specialized workshop in acting skills.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Saif Al Busaidi, Governor of Salalah, the sponsor of the occasion, honored the participating and supporting parties, the festival guests and members of the jury.

The festival includes the presentation of 7 theatrical performances held at the “Ubar” Theater in the General Directorate of Heritage and Tourism in Dhofar Governorate, presented by the local theater groups in the governorate, which include the Salalah Troupe with the play “Barhut,” the Ophir Troupe with the play “Reflections,” the Taqah Troupe with the play “The Plan,” and the Moshka Troupe with the play “Reflections.” “Riyah”, along with the Mirbat troupe with the play “Salma”, the Ubar troupe with the play “Paradise Opens Its Doors”, and the Al-Ru’ya troupe with the play “An Evening for Death”.

It is noteworthy that the Second Dhofar Theater Festival aims to highlight the role and work of local theater groups and motivate them to develop their performances intellectually and technically in order to advance the theatrical art for internal and external participation and encourage creative artists to compete in the theatrical field.
