Second edition of Frankincense season begin in Dhofar

Salalah: The activities of the frankincense season in its second edition, organized by the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, began this evening in the Dhofar Governorate, at the sites of the land of frankincense in the Al Baleed and Sumharam archaeological parks, and the Wadi Dawka Natural Reserve, and will continue until the ninth of this December.

The opening ceremony was held at Al Baleed Archaeological Park in Salalah under the patronage of the Honorable Salem bin Muslim Qattan, Vice President of the State Council, in the presence of a number of officials and a group of citizens and residents.

The ceremony program included the opening of an exhibition for small and medium enterprises, specialized companies and pioneering projects, in addition to a theatrical performance that discussed the extent of the frankincense tree’s connection to Omani civilization and cultural and commercial exchange with various ancient civilizations of the world.

On the other hand, the planting of 500 frankincense trees began this morning in the Wadi Douka Natural Reserve to celebrate the inclusion of the Land of Frankincense sites on the list of the World Heritage Committee of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

The activities of the frankincense season for 2023 include holding a group of scientific and cultural activities related to the production of Omani frankincense derivatives, and organizing a group of tourist experiences represented by pleasure boats and kayaks, classic carts, camel rides, and live frankincense extraction shows, in addition to holding a number of cultural and artistic competitions and lighting shows. It is worth noting that the activities of the frankincense season in its second edition aim to highlight the historical and touristic elements that abound in the sites of the land of frankincense in the Governorate of Dhofar, in addition to enhancing the tourist flow to the governorate and working to sustain it throughout the year, as well as providing opportunities for those interested, innovators and researchers in the field of frankincense and its derivatives to highlight their work.
