Second edition of Geological Heritage Exhibition ‘Sustainability and Employment Opportunities’ opens

Nizwa: The second edition of the Geological Heritage Exhibition “Sustainability and Job Opportunities” opens under the patronage of His Excellency Azzan bin Qasim Al Busaidi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism for Tourism, coinciding with the Sultanate of Oman’s celebrations of the 52nd National Day, and to celebrate the diversity of the museum system that the promotion of heritage and tourism destinations in the various governorates, in cooperation with the Petroleum Development Oman and the Geological Society of Oman, and it will continue until 23rd March 2023.

The opening of the exhibition comes as a translation of the efforts implemented by the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism to introduce the importance of the geological heritage in the Sultanate of Oman, to preserve it and to ensure its sustainability. The exhibition included six pillars; Among them is the story of the geological heritage and the diversity of the geology of the Sultanate of Oman and its geological history, in addition to the formation of Oman in the geological history, and the importance of preserving the geological heritage and ensuring its sustainability, in addition to job opportunities in geological tourism. Geological diversity.

The exhibition also includes a number of distinctive geological heritage pieces that abound in the Sultanate of Oman, the oldest of which is a fossil dating back about 800 million years, scientific three-dimensional models of the extinct primitive elephant whose fossilized teeth were found in the “Aidam” region in the Dhofar Governorate, and a dinosaur model. Extinct, whose fossilized bones were found in the Al-Khoud region in the Wilayat of Seeb, and other unique geological fossils.
