Sharjah Ruler visits the Sultan Qaboos University Cultural Center

Muscat: As part of his official visit to the Sultanate of Oman, Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Ruler of the Emirate of Sharjah, today visited the Cultural Centre of Sultan Qaboos University (SQU).

The Ruler of Sharjah went on tour of the Library of Omani Studies Centre at the SQU Cultural Centre. He listened to a comprehensive account about the Library, which is considered one of the SQU’s specialized libraries dealing with Omani affairs. He took note of studies and publications of the Library, aimed to group Omani intellectual output, preserve it and make it available to researchers, scholars and interested parties from Oman and abroad.

Al Qasimi was also briefed about the SQU’s academic system, colleges and services, as well as undergraduate, master’s and doctoral programmes taught at the College of Arts and Social Sciences.

Later, HH Sayyid Dr. Fahd bin Al Julanda Al Said, Vice-Chancellor of Sultan Qaboos University, presented Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi with a copy of the Holy Qur’an, written way back during the era of Sultan Turki bin Said bin Sultan Al Busaidi—by copyist Hamoud bin Rashid Al Riyami at the Holy Qur’an School in the village of Saiq. Along with the unique Holy Qur’an copy, the guest was also presented with some of the university’s publications.

At the conclusion of the visit, Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi signed the VIP visitors’ register, expressing his delight at visiting the SQU centre and commending its cultural and scholarly roles.
