Shura elects new Chairman, Deputy Chairman for 10th term

Muscat: The Shura Council today held an extraordinary session to elect the Shura Council’s chairman and two deputy chairmen for the council’s 10thterm (2023-2027).

The session was chaired by Abdullah Suroor Al Kaabi, representative of the wilayat of Shinas, the oldest member, in accordance with the provisions of Article (17) of the Council of Oman Law.

Khalid Hilal Al Maawali was re-elected as Chairman of the Shura Council after he won 58 out of 89 votes in a direct secret poll made via electronic balloting. Four members contested the position of Chairman of the Shura Council.

Taher Mabkhout Al Junaibi, representative of the wilayat of Duqm, was also elected as First Deputy Chairman of the Shura Council, after obtaining 47 votes out of the total number of votes in the second round of ballot casting. Seven members contested the position of First Deputy Chairman.

Said Hamad Al Saadi was elected as Second Deputy Chairman of the Shura Council after he obtained 52 votes. The position was contested by 6 members.

The members of the Shura Council for the 10thterm took the oath of office prior to the election of the chairman and his two deputies. – ONA
