Muscat: The prices of fish traded on the Behar platform decreased significantly during the week as a result of the increase in supply, as the prices of some types of fish fell to their lowest levels in months.

Zakaria bin Hammoud Al-Habsi, Customer Service Manager at the Behar platform, indicated that the large availability of supplies came as a result of the stability of weather conditions during the past two weeks, in turn, which led to a decrease in fish prices between 20% to 45% when compared to their levels a month ago, as the prices of large kufr fish decreased. Less than 1.3 riyals per kilo, compared to the price of 2 riyals about a month ago, and the price of large and medium sized shaari fish decreased to 1.1 riyals per kilo, compared to the price of 1.8 riyals about a month ago, and the average quantities displayed on the platform were more than 12 tons per day during the past week, where more than 30 kinds of fish per day. Al-Habsi added that the total quantities of fish offered through the Bahar platform amounted to 348 tons during the month of January.

The Bihar platform is the first Omani electronic platform to buy fish from the central wholesale fish market in Al Fulaij, with the aim of facilitating the wholesale purchase of fish products for fish merchants and marketers, companies and institutions operating in the sector from various governorates of the Sultanate by offering auctions on the platform, thus saving effort, time and the trouble of reaching the market.
