Sixth Annual Festival for People with Disabilities Kicks Off in Muscat

Sixth Edition of National Disabilities Festival Begins at Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex

Muscat: The sixth annual festival for people with disabilities commenced this evening at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Bausher, under the patronage of H.E. Dr. Rahma bint Ibrahim Al Mahrouqi, Minister of Higher Education, Research and Innovation.

Saud bin Bader Al Ambusaidi, Assistant Director General for Sports Affairs at the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth, affirmed that the festival is not merely an event, but a national message aligned with Oman Vision 2040, which emphasizes that every individual is a partner in development.

He explained that the festival highlights promising talents and paves the way for participation in national Paralympic teams. It also encourages governmental, private, and civil society institutions to enhance support for rehabilitation, training, and care.

The opening ceremony featured a heartfelt musical performance by students from Omar Bin Al-Khattab School for the Blind, followed by a visual presentation titled “Inspired by Our Abilities”, showcasing inspiring stories that underline the message that success has no limits when will and determination are present. A musical piece further enriched the celebratory atmosphere.

At the conclusion of the ceremony, the patron of the event and attendees toured the festival village to view the accompanying awareness and interactive programmes. H.E. Dr. Rahma Al Mahrouqi also honoured a group of strategic partners from government and private sector entities who contributed to supporting the festival.

This edition aims to strengthen national efforts to empower people with disabilities through training programmes and cultural, sports, and recreational activities throughout the festival. The objective is to create an environment that highlights their talents and creativity, while reinforcing societal awareness of the importance of supporting and empowering this vital segment of the community.
