SMEs Authority Chairperson Meets the ‘Startup Genome’ delegation

Muscat: Halima Rashid Al Zar’ee, Chairperson of the Authority for Small and Medium Enterprises Development (ASMED) today held a meeting with a delegation from Startup Genome on strategic goals that ASMED seeks to achieve through the development of startups whose business is based on technology and innovation.

It also discussed efforts, programmes and initiatives undertaken by government and private establishments in Oman to stimulate the startups’ system. The meeting underscored the significance of getting Oman-based startups included in the international startups’ report, which offers an opportunity to raise the competitiveness of the nascent firms, enhance their international status and promote their attractiveness by helping them keep pace with global trends.

Startup Genome provides analyses on policies and programmes that contribute to maximizing economic growth in the startup sector.

The international firm developed more than 145 startup systems in more than 50 countries around the world. Recently, Startup Genome released a report on the performance of the startup systems around the world.

In the report, Oman ranked among the top 10 countries in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) in areas of attractive markets for talent and abundance of venture capital financing. Oman also figured among the top 15 countries that excelled in the rapid development and performance of the startup systems.

The total market value of Omani startups exceeds $300 million, according to a report issued by Startup Genome. Moreover, Startup Genome is an international innovation policy advisory and a research firm
