Sohar Governorate witnesses marine and beach sports competitions

Sohar: Marine and beach sports events and competitions were held today in the North Al Batinah Governorate in the Wilayat of Sohar, with wide participation from various sports clubs in the governorate as part of the third edition of the Sohar Festival. The marine races included the Shoush Sailing Race with the participation of 35 teams and 150 participants.

The race started from the Fishermen’s Port in Sohar and covered a distance of 8 nautical miles, reaching the Silver Jubilee Park beach, in addition to the Kayak Race with the participation of 45 competitors for a distance of up to 1 nautical mile.

The beach activities included competitions in sports and popular games, as the six clubs of North Al Batinah Governorate participated in the beach football championship, while 16 teams competed in the beach volleyball championship on the beach of the Silver Jubilee Park.

In the context of preserving the cultural heritage, popular games competitions were held, which included traditional games such as: Al Sayyad, Al Yous, Al Atraj, and Al Lahoof, with the participation of 12 contestants who added a traditional and enthusiastic atmosphere, to enhance sports and recreational activities, and encourage young people to practice marine and beach sports in addition to popular games.
