Sohar: After closing for 8 years, the doors of Sohar market are reopening with many advantages, the most important of which is exempting tenants from rents for a period of 6 months, after it was one of the most important reasons that prompted merchants to close their stores.
After the demands of the Municipal Council members in 2020, to reduce rent prices, the market returns with new shops of different sizes and at much lower rental prices, as the rent price of the shop in the previous Sohar market ranged from 350 to 400 Omani riyals.
Muhammad bin Khasib Al Roshdi, Director of the Department of Financial Affairs and Income in Sohar Municipality, said The Sohar market will be opened tomorrow under the patronage of His Excellency Sheikh Saif bin Hamir Al Malik Al Shehhi, Governor of North Al Batinah, after its closure lasted for about 8 years. And with this new opening, there will be a lot of facilities in terms of prices and payment for the tenant, and the tenants are exempted from renting for a period of 6 months from the date of entry into force of the rental relationship of the contract, as well as additional parking spaces that the municipality is now constructing around the market, along the corniche opposite the front of the market.
He added: Sohar Market in the new Hilla will be a fully air-conditioned commercial heritage, characterized in terms of its location, with its beautiful view of the sea and its proximity to the sea road (Corniche). Omani per shop, and shops with an area of more than 20 meters at 150 Omani riyals per shop.
Al-Rushdi said that there is an exemption for paying rent for a full year for owners of small and medium enterprises “Riyada”, and spaces on the sides of the market designated for practicing commercial activities (kiosks, carts) that home owners can benefit from free of charge.
As for the plans that are currently being studied, there is a plan to activate the approximately 180 shops located around the market, and an integrated plan to activate cultural, heritage, literary and artistic activities every week in the upper market hall.
