Sohar Port Opens Central Emergency Response Unit to Enhance Flexibility, Efficiency of Tasks

Sohar: Sohar Port and Freezone opened a Central Emergency Response Unit, following the signing of a protocol with a local firm entrusted with the management of the unit.

The step fits with the port’s commitment to bolster emergency readiness and provide firefighting services in all its facilities and in its tenants’ establishments.

Eng. Khamis Mohammed Al Shammakhi, Transport Undersecretary at the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, said that Omani ports constitute centres for the enhancement of businesses and trade in a manner that fits with Oman Vision 2040, which leans on the logistics sector as one of its major pillars for the achievement of its goals.

Sohar Port and Freezone contribute to the improvement of infrastructure and the empowerment of users to carry out their tasks in an efficient manner and in accordance with the highest levels of security and safety, Al Shammakhi added.

The Central Emergency Response Unit operates round-the-clock and handles all incident reports, just within 6 minutes.

The unit adds value to leasing parties. Its services include preliminary preparedness for emergencies and training on joint response action. – ONA
