South Al Sharqiyah Governorate witnesses surge in tourists during winter season

Sur: The Governorate of South Al Sharqiyah is witnessing an increasing tourist movement from inside and outside the Sultanate of Oman during the winter season, due to its geographical, environmental and cultural diversity, where the coastal environment meets towering mountains and extended valleys, which constitutes an exceptional interface for lovers of adventure and exploration. Its beaches are an ideal destination for water sports enthusiasts.

Abdullah bin Rashid Al Hajri, Director of the Heritage and Tourism Department in the South Al Sharqiyah Governorate, said that the administration prepared for the winter season by visiting specialists to hotel establishments to monitor the quality of services for those establishments and their affiliated facilities, as the governorate contains a number of hotel and tourist establishments, the number of which exceeds (100) hotel and tourist establishments. He pointed out that the South Al Sharqiyah Governorate enables the visitor to practice and enjoy many activities, as it is the ideal place for camping among the plains and plateaus and to practice fishing. The “Fath Al Khair Museum” is one of the cultural and historical landmarks in the South Al Sharqiyah Governorate that tells the ancient maritime heritage of the Wilayat of Sur, and the castles and forts are Historical monuments that bear witness to the rich history of the governorate.

He added that the turtle reserve in Ras Al Jinz is the incubator for many types of rare turtles, including green turtles, as the visitor can learn about the life stages of turtles by visiting the reserve. There are also youth projects for tourism activities and practicing marine sports, and for lovers of adventure activities, the governorate meets the passion of adventure lovers, including activity. Mountain climbing, mountain walking among the scenic valleys and towering mountains that the governorate is famous for, and many other enjoyable activities that the governorate abounds with.
