SQU Hospital succeeds in implanting latest device for a patient suffering from severe hearing loss

Muscat: A specialized surgical team at Sultan Qaboos University Hospital (SQUH) succeeded in performing a surgical operation for a 14-year-old girl suffering from severe hearing loss.

The operation involved the implantation of the latest hearing device of its kind and it is considered one of the most suitable solutions in such cases.

The operation was conducted by a surgical team led by Dr. Khalid Said Al Za’abi, Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) Surgeon at SQUH.

Dr. Khalid pointed out that the team did not encounter any difficulties during the operation, thanks to good preparation and prompt coordination with the manufacturer. The operation took about two hours.

Dr. Khalid Al Za’abi told Oman News Agency (ONA) that the device is the latest of its kind in the industry and that the operation was the first of its kind in Oman.

There is an ample scope to implant such advanced devices for patients in future, said Dr. Khalid Al Za’abi, who affirmed that coordination is underway with the manufacturers of such devices.
