SQU, Journalists Association Hold Media Law Event in Muscat

Muscat:  Sultan Qaboos University, in cooperation with the Oman Journalists Association, organised a symposium on Media Law in the Sultanate of Oman.

The event brought together academics, media professionals and students to discuss the legislative framework governing media work and institutions. It was held under the auspices of Sheikh Rashid bin Ahmed Al Shamsi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Social Development for Family and Community Development Affairs.

The symposium highlighted the importance of strengthening cooperation between academic institutions and professional entities, while promoting awareness of legal frameworks regulating media practices.

It also aimed to enhance media awareness among students and young professionals and support integration between academic and civil society institutions in the field of media education.

The programme included a presentation outlining key aspects of the Media Law in Oman, followed by two sessions.

The first session addressed principles related to freedom of expression and media licensing, while the second focused on the rights and responsibilities of media professionals, as well as professional ethics.

The symposium concluded with a panel discussion featuring media professionals who exchanged views on various issues related to media practice.
