The Ministry of Social Development confirmed that the statistics circulating on social media about domestic violence in the Sultanate of Oman are incorrect.
The ministry said in a statement: After verifying the source of the statistics, it was based on a study issued by the ministry, dating back to the year 2017, and related to the community’s understanding of the issue of domestic violence. This came in the result of opinion questionnaires on a limited sample, and it is not possible to measure it or generalize its results.
The ministry indicated that the cases that were dealt with through Dar Al Wefaq during the year 2022 amounted to 17 cases of Omani women who were subjected to abuse.
The “Social Development” called on everyone to investigate accuracy and credibility when publishing or re-publishing statistics and data, and to obtain information from its official sources.
