Yanqul: The Wilayat of Yanqul in Al Dhahirah Governorate is witnessing the success of cultivating the fig crop in commercial quantities, within the framework of the agricultural orientation for investment in the field of agricultural crops.

Muhammad bin Ahmed Al-Farsi, owner of the fig field project, said that the idea of ​​the project began two years ago by exploiting an agricultural plot of land to grow 500 seedlings of fig trees, and after studying the project in terms of the costs of seedlings, irrigation, fertilization, provision of pesticides, management and marketing of products, the quantity produced by the field per day reached about 100 kilograms. To supply the market of the governorate and neighboring governorates with fig fruit, which is in high demand due to its health benefits.

He added that the idea of ​​the fig crop production project came due to the lack of supply of fig fruit in the local market and the high demand for it, as those in charge of it focused on providing different quantities of figs throughout the seasons of the year, explaining that the field contains about 25 varieties of yellow, green, black and brown fig trees that vary Its sources are from different countries such as the Syrian, Jordanian, Spanish and Turkish figs, all of which proved successful in the Omani environment, in addition to the team conducting experiments on Ghanaian and Moroccan figs and following up on its growth and production in order to include it among the varieties produced in the field.

He indicated that the team is following the growth of fig trees and studying the characteristics of the various cultivated species that are commensurate with the climate, the nature of the soil and the salinity of water in Al Dhahirah Governorate, and what has a direct impact on the shape of the fruit, their taste and quality, and the agricultural insect and fungal pests that affect fig trees and find appropriate solutions to combat them in cooperation with the Department of Agricultural Resources and Resources.
