Sultan Qaboos University celebrates World Social Work Day 2023

Muscat: Sultan Qaboos University celebrated the World Social Work Day under the slogan “Legal Social Work”. Dr. Wafaa bint Saeed Al Maamari – Head of the Sociology Department – delivered a speech in which she mentioned that the world celebrates the Social Work Day every year in the third week of March, and its celebration comes in appreciation of the importance of the social and humanitarian work of the social worker, and in promoting the best professional practices that he provides to the community, and the interest With the achievements of social services, and work to develop and support the role of the social worker in the life of the individual, the group and society, and this day is an opportunity to appreciate the efforts of those who chose social work as their profession.

She pointed out that there is a close relationship between the practice of social work and the legal and legislative systems, and the importance of the law lies in regulating the relationship between people to ensure the continued existence of society, its protection, development and advancement towards progress and prosperity, and the achievement of security and stability for individuals and the preservation of their rights.

During the ceremony, a presentation was presented that included an introductory overview of the department and the most important roles it plays in graduating students with social work skills.

The forum’s lectures were also held under the title (Legal Social Work), and among the most important axes were the legislative and legal framework for social work practices, the role of law in the practice of social work, and international agreements and legislation from a social point of view.

The activities continue today by organizing a lecture on the use of artificial intelligence in social work, and the students of the department visit the National Center for Autism.
