Sultan Said bin Taimur Road in Duqm opens for traffic

Partial Opening of Sultan Said bin Taimur Road in Duqm

Duqm: The Special Economic Zone at Duqm (SEZAD) announced today the opening of traffic on parts of Sultan Said bin Taimur Road in Duqm.

This project serves as a main road in the Wilayat of Duqm, connecting SEZAD to Muscat Governorate in the north via the Duqm–Mahout–Sinaw road, and linking the area in the south to Dhofar Governorate and the Wilayats of Haima and Al Jazer.

Eng. Ahmed Ali Akaak, CEO of SEZAD, stated that Sultan Said bin Taimur Road is a vital route within SEZAD. It reflects the Zone’s commitment to upgrading its road network to meet international standards in terms of quality, safety and smooth traffic flow.

He affirmed in a press statement that the Road aims to connect industrial and urban areas with a modern, integrated network of roads and bridges.

This network is designed to meet the needs of the business environment in the region, in line with the scale of investments, urban development and population growth in the economic zone, particularly with the increasing number of projects being implemented in the area.

Sultan Said bin Taimur Road within SEZAD comprises three lanes in each direction, featuring an unpaved central median with aesthetically designed interlocking tiles, and shoulders on both sides.

The Road is equipped with traffic lights at intersections, LED lighting, box culverts and concrete bridges for rainwater and wadi drainage, along with traffic safety features and signage indicating investment, tourist, and commercial zones.

The implementation of Sultan Said bin Taimur Road aligns with the plans of the Public Authority for Special Economic Zones and Free Zones (OPAZ) to enhance road efficiency and improve public services in SEZAD.

Oman Company for the Development of SEZAD, the executive arm for infrastructure development, is completing the remaining sections of the Road, which will be opened in phases in the coming period.
