Survey of Marine Mammal Species in Musandam launched in Khasab

Khasab: The project to survey marine mammal species in Musandam Governorate was launched today in the Wilayat of Khasab, which is being implemented by the Environment Agency, with the participation of specialists from a number of official agencies and civil society institutions. During the review of the project work, the general plan was discussed.

In preparation for the start of the field survey for the first period, which will last until the 19th of August. The project aims to know the number of species of marine mammals in Musandam Governorate, their locations and seasons, in addition to establishing a database of marine mammal viewing sites.

Engineer Aida bint Khalaf Al Jabriya, an environmental systems specialist, said: Musandam Governorate is characterized by the presence of many marine mammals that can be easily seen in the governorate’s seas, which are protected in particular.

Accordingly, the idea of ​​implementing this project came as part of the implementation of the National Natural Park Management Plan in Musandam Governorate.

He added that the project will continue for three years, starting this year, and the marine area will be surveyed within and along the borders of the Natural National Park in Musandam Governorate, with an area estimated at 1,176 square kilometers. Atmospheric conditions and ocean currents.
